The exit of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland from the European Union, this past January 1, 2021, has generated that all people coming from these countries cannot stay more than 90 days in a period of 180 days in Spain, so it forces them to look for different alternatives.

Among the different alternatives to reside in Spain, the Golden Visa or residence visa for investors, which allows residents to stay without time limit and not only the person who makes the investment, also their relatives (spouse, economically dependent children and even ascendants).

In addition to these advantages, the Golden Visa has other additional benefits to take into account. It allows the investor and his family members to work without restriction in any part of the Spanish territor and the relatives could reside in Spain without the investor having to remain there.

Such investments must be significant, presenting a series of documentation personally or through a representative. The investments can be of a financial nature, such as acquiring shares or stocks of a Spanish company for a minimum value of 1,000,000 euros; or of a real estate nature, for example with the acquisition of a property or properties with a minimum value of 500,000 euros. For the former, it is required to be fulfilled within a period not exceeding one year. On the other hand, for the purchase and sale of real estate there is no deadline, provided that such real estate was acquired after September 2013. Even so, we recommend that they are made within a maximum period of one year.

The Golden Visa is valid for one year, being renewable for periods of two years up to a maximum of 5 years. From that moment, it is possible to opt for a long term residence.
